What Are Implant Retained Dentures?

Unlike traditional dentures, implant-retained dentures utilise dental implants anchored in the jaw to support a complete arch restoration. This solution is perfect for those experiencing issues with slipping dentures or pressure sores on the gums. These innovative dentures distribute the biting force through the jawbone rather than relying solely on the gums, resulting in greater stability and a natural feel. Additionally, this approach can preserve your facial structure and prevent bone loss — a common side effect of traditional dentures. Depending on your needs, you can choose from snap-on or permanent options. It is about time you enjoy all your favourite foods without restrictions.

The Procedure

The treatment is divided into two procedures. Firstly, dental implants are placed in your jaw. They are given time to heal and fuse with the bone. The healing period lasts around 8-12 weeks, after which abutments are attached to the implants. These abutments create a supportive anchor for your denture. You can select between snap-on removable dentures or a fixed permanent option. After the process, you’ll care for your dentures as you would your natural teeth — and enjoy a newfound confidence.

Ideal Candidates for Dental Implants

An ideal candidate for dental implants possesses good oral health and has adequate bone density to support the implants. Being a non-smoker is also essential, as smoking can heighten the risk of implant failure. Additionally, some health conditions may disqualify you from being a suitable candidate, but we can address these concerns during your initial consultation.

As a recent new patient to the practice, I’ve been delighted with my treatment thus far, and have been greeted with warmth and professionalism. Both Josie & Zoe have offered extremely friendly and impartial advice on how best to move forward with my aging teeth. The whole of the practice offers a very caring ethos that gives the patient confidence in their dental choice. Thank you to all.

I've recently located to area & hadn't attended a dentist for a few years. My initial appointment with Josie was the most relaxed I've ever been (nervous patient!). A 2nd appt for a necessary tooth extraction was completed with so much patience & care that I wasn't even aware the tooth was out! All staff are friendly & welcoming & I look forward (that's never been in my vocabulary) to attending further appointments with Josie to dispel this awful nervousness. Thank you.
John Conley

Dr Stevenson is the ultimate professional. I had a tooth extraction which was totally painless. He explained the whole procedure and then explained the aftercare carefully. The best dental experience I’ve ever had.
Linda Jones
After experiencing severe pain over the weekend, I was able to obtain an emergency appointment first thing Monday morning despite not being registered with this dentist. Very professional, lovely staff and put me at ease immediately. The dentist clearly explained my options and I decided on a extraction which was carried out immediately. I can now continue with my holiday and can't thank them enough.
Nick Roper
I’ve just had a root canal treatment which I really hadn’t been looking forward to. However, Lyndall and Jasmine carried out the procedure in such a professional and caring way that I almost went to sleep! My thanks to both 🙏
